Keira stared at the drone. “No… I’m still alive.”

“You are,” the voice said. “But not for long. The system doesn’t tolerate overlaps.”

The stranger lunged—but the drone fired a burst of electric blue light, sending him crashing into the wall.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Keira shouted.

“Because I was Version 25,” he coughed, blood in his teeth. “I thought if you could survive… we all could.”

Suddenly, the terminal beeped.

“Override complete,” it announced.

Data flooded into her.

All 27 versions. All endings. All failures.

She screamed—not from pain, but understanding.

She was never supposed to survive. But now, she had every reason to.
