The Student

Image
Day 1 The scorching Sun coupled by the humidity in the air has started torturing the people around, but Sunil has no time to pay heed to the rising temperature or the increasing discomfort. He is engrossed in his summer homework. “Sir will be furious if I am unable to complete the task.” He uttered under his breath as he sat out in the courtyard of is house with his notebook. Sunil cannot get his mind off the cane in the hands of his master and the scolding that he would be entitled to, if he is unable to finish the piece of work within the stipulated time period. The stagnant plants in the adjacent garden seemed to be witnessing the favorite student of   Ghatak Sir, struggling with the tough mathematical problems that he has been challenged with. “Sunil.” The sudden voice of Ghatak Sir took Sunil by surprise. “Oh, he is going to scold me now for not sitting straight while studying. I wish I saw him before.” Sunil thought as he stood up from his mat on the floor to...

India has been requested by so many countries to supply the formulation. But do you know that the history of hydroxychloroquine has a very intimate relationship with Tipu Sultan’s capital Seringapatnam?   Ever heard your parents or grandparents asking you to go and get a tonic for curing any ailment? Do you know that the origin of this term is also related to this chemical in a way? The drug even has a distant, yet not entirely irrelevant connection with Vijay Mallya. Finding it difficult to believe? Read on. How does it relate to Tipu Sultan? The connection dates back to 1799, when Tipu Sultan got defeated by the British army, under Lord Wellesley (well the fourth battle of Mysore is itself a intricately woven story of bravery and deception, but we will talk about that on som...
